Types of Commercial Roofing

If you are a commercial building owner in need of a new roof, it can seem overwhelming as you decide on what type of roof you should install. There are different types of Commercial Roofing in Austin TX. How can you know which one is the best choice for your specific building project? Keeping in mind that each commercial roof type has its pros and cons, and making a decision is more difficult than ever before due to the variety of options available.

Metal Roofing

A metal roof is a roofing system made from metal pieces or tiles characterized by its high resistance. Metal is highly resistant to fire, wind, and impact. It does not get as hot as asphalt, and it reflects heat away from the building underneath in summer. Aluminum, zinc, tin, copper, aluminum Coated or stainless steel is examples of metal roofs for commercial roofing. Because of their durability, metal roofs can last up to 100 years, with installers providing 50-year warranties. Compared to asphalt shingles, metal roofs can be less expensive in the long run. Metal roofing can consist of a high percentage of recycled material and is 100% recyclable.

PVC

PVC roofing or polyvinyl chloride is a single-ply roofing solution used on commercial or industrial roofs that are flat or low sloped. PVC or polyvinyl chloride is the third-most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer. PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, roofing is composed of two layers of PVC roof material with polyester acting as a reinforcement between the layers. The layers also include additives that make the material UV-stable and flexible, while also preventing curing. Like EPDM and TPO, it is lightweight. Vinyl membranes are flame resistant, which allows PVC roofing systems more likely to qualify for Class-A ratings than other roofing systems

Asphalt Rolled Roofing

Asphalt rolled roofing is commonly used on buildings with low-slope roofs. It is composed of the same materials that are used to make asphalt shingles. Asphalt rolled roofing is one of the more low-priced roofing types, and it is commonly used as commercial roofing services in Austin. It is also a very easy type of roof to install.

TPO

A thermoplastic polyolefin roof (TPO) has become a very popular option, especially among Austin Commercial Roofing. TPO is one of the cheapest types of roofing material and is less expensive than EPDM in most cases. Because of the color of TPO, it helps reflect the sun, thus reducing heat buildup inside your structure. Like EPDM, TPO is lightweight and can also be installed in different ways; it can be directly fastened to the roof deck or fully adhered with adhesives to the roof deck. It is also resistant to corrosion and breakdown.

Thermoset EPDM Membrane

Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM) is a roll-based, durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane. Also known as Thermoset roofing, an EPDM roof system offers strong resistance to sunlight and pollution. It’s long-lasting, versatile and easy to install. EPDM comes in white and black rolls, and in addition to sun and pollution resistance, this single-ply rubber is durable in the face of many common solvents like alcohol, or acids.
